Many things have happened since my last e-mail.  Daegen had a problem with the OKT3 medicine.  The purpose of OKT3 is to kill the T-Cell’s in Daegen’s body.  The T-Cell’s are what fights of infections.  He had one dose on Sunday with no problems.  The Sunday dose was a test dose so it was not very much.  On Monday he had a larger dose and then had some problems.  He took his nap and when he woke up he threw up.  He threw up quite a bit.  He then had a fever that reached 40.9 C or 105.6 F.  He also had complained a few times about headaches.  Along with the fever his blood pressure was low.  It took some time to get it back to a range the doctors were satisfied with.  We almost had to go to ICU so he could be monitored.

Tuesday was much better with no fever or throwing up.  His blood pressure did go down a little when he went to sleep but it came back up after IV fluids.

Wednesday went well for Daegen.  He is getting a little rash on his bottom but for the most part things are going well for him.  I on the other hand am a different story.  I got my first shot of GMCSF.  It is very similar to the GCSF Daegen gets when we are trying to get his counts to come up.  I will actually be taking the GCSF later this week.  I got the GMCSF at 11:00 a.m. and was fine for a short time.  At 12:00 noon I started feeling some pain in my lower back where the bone marrow is produced.  I got very light headed and felt like I was going to faint.  I then took my Tylenol 3 with Codeine.  That was a big mistake.  I have never had Tylenol with Codeine before.  As most of you can imagine what happened to me.  I became very nauseous and soon after I was getting sick.  I felt so bad because here was Daegen feeling fine and wanting to play but I couldn’t.  I had to keep telling Daegen to wait until I feel better then I would play with him.  Little did I know that would take until 7:00 p.m.  That was only a false feeling better.  I soon was sick again.  I was given a new prescription for the pain, Percocet and Promethazine for the vomiting.

At one point Daegen told his nurse, “My dad needs some more medicine.”  I am sure he was concerned for me but he really wanted me to get better to play with him.  I didn’t think about what would happen if I did get sick and still needed to take care of Daegen.  On Thursday I will take my pain medicine before I get the shot to hopefully stay on top of things.

Daegen really misses visitors and doesn’t understand why more people don’t visit him.  I try to explain to him but he doesn’t really understand.  The other day I was asking Daegen about dying and if he knew what that meant.  I realize he has no idea what that means, but I wanted to know what he thought about dying.  Daegen told me it is when people go to the sky with God.  He is smarter than I thought.  I then told Daegen that the sickness he has can make some people die.  Daegen replied, “I’m not going to die.”  It is this kind of strength that Daegen shows me that helps me get through tough times.

Hopefully my next four days of getting shots will be much different than my first day.  I want to thank everyone again for all their prayers and support.  It is more helpful than anyone can ever know.  God Bless.  www.dmanhero.com <http://www.dmanhero.com/>
